Motion Graphics Generalist


Are you a creative motion designer/animator interested in working on innovative projects in Calgary? Axis Z Media Arts is looking for a motion graphics generalist to join us on upcoming projects in 2020.

We are not looking for 2D character animation at this time. 

You will be responsible for producing animated visual content for multimedia installations and performances. You will work with a team of artists, developers and programmers interested in bringing digital and media arts to Alberta audiences.

Your Responsibilities

  • Be part of the creative team, developing visual concepts, brainstorming, and researching new methods in visual storytelling
  • Be responsible for the production and delivery of animated content in accordance with the established schedule
  • Constantly be on the lookout for novelties in animation and graphic design
  • Any other responsibilities and/or tasks relating to the position.

Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years digital animation experience
  • Ability to contribute creatively and artistically to the project
  • Good communication skills and willingness to work in team
  • Must reply to emails in timely manner
  • Willingness to learn new skills
  • Proficiency in After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator
  • Proficiency in 3D Software, Blender, C4D, Maya, etc
  • Knowledge of particle simulation tools such as Particular, Xparticles, etc an asset
  • Knowledge of real time environments such as Unity, Unreal, or TouchDesigner an asset
  • Must have your own computer and software
  • Flexible hours depending on needs of project

Ongoing Internships



Are you interested in learning more about digital arts and multimedia production? Want to be involved with a team of artists, programmers and designers working on innovative projects?  We want to build our community of collaborators and are looking for one or two enthusiastic and dedicated people who are interested in learning new skills, gaining real world experience and contributing to the development of digital and media arts in Alberta. 

You are

  • Passionate about digital and media arts and have at least one year experience working or studying in the field
  • Interested in advancing your artistic career
  • Proficient in working with computers and interested in learning new technologies
  • Willing to learn new skills and improve yourself
  • Willing to push through challenges and not give up when you meet an obstacle (there are always obstacles)
  • Friendly, trustworthy, able to work in a team environment and communicate well with others
  • Able to dedicate time and energy to research, creation and experimentation

You have experience in at least one of the following areas

  • Electronics (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, circuit bending) 
  • Real time programming and gaming environments - TouchDesigner, Unity, Processing, Unreal, Max/MSP
  • 3D motion graphics - Blender, Maya, C4D, Houdini, etc
  • Production - Project management, planning, communications, installs
  • Computer programming, networking or media system development
  • 3D printing and prototyping
  • Augmented Reality (AR)


Your responsibilities

  • Be present, dedicated and enthusiastic
  • Be part of our studio team, researching, creating and exploring new content and ideas 
  • Contribute to producing new work and commissions
  • Take initiative to improve your skills by either learning through us or self-learning
  • Manage studio environment including inventory, archiving and organization
  • Help us during on-site installs
  • Be able to work from home and/or travel to our studio in Bowness NW Calgary

Compensation

Our internships are for those interested in improving their skills and gaining valuable experience in creative production environments.  The internship includes studio space and professional instruction. We expect you to dedicate 40-50 hours total over a period of one to three months.  
Compensation $500
