		<description>About Us

Axis Z Media Arts (AZMA) is a digital art studio based in Calgary, Canada that
creates genre-blurring digital experiences that break out of the traditional rectangular screen and into the real world.

We
 specialize in projection mapping, interactive installations, 3D animation,
 and sound, with a focus on artistic detail, technical execution, and
audience engagement. Our team comprises media artists, creative coders,
designers, and technical specialists from Canada and Colombia, fostering
 cross-disciplinary collaboration to push boundaries and inspire new
discoveries.
We strive to engage the digital era with curiosity and
wonder while questioning its impact on our lives.

Axis-Z?

Axis-Z
refers to the Z-axis in a three-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system,
 which gives an object depth and makes it 3D.

Our Responsibility
Our use of large-scale projection mapping is energy-intensive and can
have negative environmental impacts. To offset this, we support Cool Earth, a non-profit organization that helps rainforest communities
prevent deforestation and its effects on climate change.

Collision
Projection Mapping Installation

2025

Januray 31st - February 16th, 2025Activation on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays
Stephen Avenue:&#38;nbsp;Facade of El Furniture Warehouse, Original Joe's and Annabelle's Kitchen

107 8 Ave SW, Calgary

6pm - 10pm

Collision is a projection mapping installation that invites
viewers to rethink their relationship with time in today’s digital age.
Using evolving visuals, we explore the ways technology and social media
distort our perception of time, accelerating our days and merging
moments into a continuous, often overwhelming flow. Through this
experience, we encourage viewers to confront the effects of this
distortion and restore a sense of genuine human connection.

Set against the architectural features of the buildings: El Furniture
 Warehouse, Original Joe’s and Annabelle’s Kitchen on Stephen Avenue,
our visuals evolve and pulse, conveying a sense of movement that mirrors
 time slipping and bending around us. We blend physics-inspired effects
with an evocative soundtrack that synchronizes with the visuals,
creating a layered sensory experience. Each element of Collision urges
the viewer to pause, reflect, and consider what endures amidst the rush
of digital life.

BiblioBeats 2
Projection Mapping Installation

2023

September 28-30, 2023
Central Memorial Park Library

7:30pm - 11pm
Over the last two winters, AZMA has partnered with animators from Calgary and Bogotá to create six unique projection mappings at Central Memorial Park Library. AZMA handles the technical side, allowing artists to focus on creative storytelling. This collaboration offers a community platform for artistic expression without the need for technical expertise in projection mapping.

The first trio of animations drew inspiration from the library's architecture, its role as a repository of books, and the cultural significance of Memorial Park. Utilizing a diverse set of techniques, artists Residuo, Sergio Moreno, and AZMA produced works that range from 3D and 2D digital animation to motion graphics and handmade stop-motion.

The remaining three animations were crafted with the winter season in mind. As the solstice nears and the days grow shorter, these pieces by Tyler Longmire, Emmanuel Ho, and Residuo serve as luminous reminders of the Holiday Spirit, casting light and warmth during the darkest months.

Together, these six animations span two themes and showcase the diverse potential of architectural projection mapping.

Impossible Geometries
Immersive Interactive
Projection Mapping Installation

2022

New Version in Development

Impossible Geometries is currently being redeveloped as a new, education-focused edition. We are now taking meetings and setting up bookings for this updated version, with availability beginning in fall 2026 and a premiere planned for summer 2026.

Impossible Geometries is an interactive 360-degree projection experience where art and mathematics become the main characters. Through play, humor, and narrative, visitors move through and activate immersive environments, learning ideas in math and art through experience rather than explanation. The new edition features six interactive worlds, each introduced by short stop-motion animations, and is designed for immersive galleries, science centres, and cultural spaces.

Presentation History

March 1 – September 5, 2022THEMUSEUMKitchener, Ontario, CA

Impossible Geometries was the inaugural experience presented in THEMUSEUM’s EYEPOOL interactive 360-degree projection environment. This immersive exhibit took visitors through ten unique audiovisual worlds exploring elements of visual design, interaction, and play.

Guests entered a surreal landscape where space and time warped and abstract geometries filled the room. Each world emphasized a different visual design element, including line, dot, shape, texture, space, color, intersection, scale, negative and positive space, and repetition. Visitors were encouraged to explore freely, knowing there were no right answers.

Sensors in the room tracked movement and activated interactive floor animations, encouraging play, exploration, and reflection on the visual elements present in each world.

BiblioBeats
Projection Mapping Installation

2021

December 10-19, 2021
Central Memorial Park Library

5pm - 11pm
We teamed up with Victoria Park BIA,&#38;nbsp; (who just got some lovely laser projectors) to create and commission three new projection mapping animations that explore a wide range of styles and techniques while representing Canada and Colombia.
Animation #1 by Laura Anzola and Matthew Waddell uses abstract geometry and particles - tightly synchronized to the beat - to highlight architecture and rhythm.
Animation #2 by Residuo Animacion is a hand-made, stop motion animation using pastels and powdered pigments to take us on a crafty journey through texture and human touch.
Animation #3 by Sergio Moreno is a smiley mix of 3D and 2D animation that brings the library into the park with books, written text and colourful paper transitions.&#38;nbsp;

Gravitation
Projection Mapping Installation

2020

Victoria Park BIA &#38;amp; AZMA present GRAVITATION

 October 10th - November 6th, 2020&#38;nbsp;

Gravitation is a large-scale projection mapped installation taking place each night along 1st Street SW between 12 Ave and 13 Ave SW.
Gravitation combines particle-based animations along with inspirational texts, commenting on life under a pandemic, to create a truly unique and mesmerizing experience for the Calgary public. &#38;nbsp;

The installation is inspired by gravitation, a physical natural phenomena that is shared by all matter in the universe. Gravitation references the movement by which any particle of matter is able to attract and repel others with varying force over time. Particles exist both individually and collectively and are involved in an ongoing, ever-changing push/pull relationship to negotiate space and shape. The fluctuating movements within Gravitation are inspired by the ways society has adapted to deal with the challenges present during COVID-19 and the difficulties of being apart while trying to connect with loved ones and the world around us.&#38;nbsp;

In the spring of 2021 we hosted weekly online sessions to build a community centered on digital creativity during the pandemic. Each hour-long meeting included discussions and mini-lessons to inspire creativity and connections. The gatherings were open to anyone and featured challenges and exercises for ongoing engagement.

Known as "Real-Time Tuesdays," these sessions went beyond typical workshops to encourage active digital creation and reflection. Participants could join from either a computer or a phone.

While we looked forward to eventual in-person gatherings, we embraced the digital format as our current means of community-building. The "Real-Time" label emphasized our focus on immediate creative engagement.

For more information and to join the gathering check out the Facebook page here &#38;nbsp;

WEEK 3 - April 28
5:30pm MST

 "Entering the Third Dimension" This week we
will be giving an introduction to 3D graphics and animation. This will
be much less technical than previous weeks as we won't be focusing on
any specific software, but we'll be discussing how you can, right now,
start exploring the super fun world of 3D computer graphics. We'll look
at how to make still images, animations and how to integrate those into
real-time processes.
